Freedom of Information Act 2000 and Environmental Information Regulations 2004

Anyone can make an FOI (freedom of information) request for recorded information held by Dorset council. We will decide whether an information request should be dealt with under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) or The Environmental Information Regulations 2004 (EIR). You can find out more about this in Access to information and fees.

Make an FOI request using our online form

There is a statutory time limit of 20 working days for FOIA and EIR requests to be answered.

Requests for personal data

If however you would like to request personal data about yourself or a child you have parental responsibility for, you will need to submit a Subject Access Request (SAR) under the Data Protection Act. In this case please use our SAR form instead.

Costs of making requests

FOI and EIR requests are normally answered free of charge but there are circumstances where a charge may be made. See additional information about associated fees
