In order to preserve or improve the amenities of the roads covered in the County of Dorset (Various Roads, Purbeck District) (Prohibition of use of Highways by Contract Carriages) Order 1975, drivers of coaches and minibuses with a total capacity of 12 seats or more need to carry a permit issued by Dorset Council.

Domestic, trade vehicles and vehicles with a capacity of less than 11 seats are not covered by this restriction and need not apply for a permit.

Apply for a permit

There is no charge for the permit. Applications must be made at least 5 working days before the date of travel. The driver of the vehicle will need a copy of the permit and keep it in the vehicle at all times during the journey.

Dorset Council expects all applicants and bus and coach operators/drivers to be considerate of the limited and narrow road network during their visit and park appropriately without causing unnecessary obstruction.

We cannot advise on appropriate parking places, which is the responsibility of the applicant and or the bus/coach operator to investigate prior to their visit. See our coach parking information for more details.
