Heath / forest mosaic historic information

Large areas of woodland, generally modern plantation, interspersed with a mixture of heathland and small-scale enclosure, particularly in the vicinity of the older (i.e. at least medieval) settlements. Some disruption from modern uses such as recreation and military use.
