Your rights as a child

You have loads of rights to make sure you have a happy, healthy life. Here are some of them:

  • right to have a voice; speak freely, be heard and listened to
  • right to family life; be with the people you love as long as it's safe to do so
  • right to freedom of thought and religion; you can believe and practise any religion you choose
  • right to meet with others; you are allowed to meet friends and join clubs
  • everyone working with you will want what's best for you
  • right to care; if you can't be looked after by your family, then you must be given care
  • right to protection from violence; if you're being hurt, or at risk of being hurt, then you must be helped to leave that situation. This includes:
    • emotionally
    • mentally
    • sexually
    • physically
  • right to privacy; you don't have to tell people about what's going on if you don't want to, unless they need to know for your safety
  • right to relax; through sport, leisure or activities that make you feel better and calmer
  • right to know your rights; that's why you're reading this page!
