Taxi and private hire licences

The Dorset Council area is split into 2 taxi zones:

You need a separate licence to work within each zone.

If you want to accept private hire bookings for your private hire vehicle, you will need an operator's licence.

You can apply for a licence to drive a hackney carriage (taxi) or private hire vehicle, or a combined licence to drive both.

Your taxi or private hire vehicle must be licensed to work within one of our zones.

Energy Saving Trust Survey

Earlier this year a survey was carried out by Dorset Council and the Energy Saving Trust to inform taxi policy and support Electric Vehicle infrastructure decisions. You can see the results of the survey in the March report.
