Warning Do not pay your parking fine if you want to challenge it.

If you think you have been issued a parking fine incorrectly or there are other things you'd like us to know, you have the right to challenge it.

There is no time limit on challenging a parking fine but if you leave it more than 14 days, you will lose the 50% discount if your challenge gets rejected and you have to pay.

Civil enforcement officers are not allowed to cancel or take back a parking fine once they have issued it.

Before you start

You will need:

  • the penalty charge notice (PCN) number starting with DV (found at the top of your parking fine)
  • your vehicle registration number

Contact us if you don't know your PCN number. If it does not start with DV, we did not issue the parking fine.

Challenge in writing

If you cannot submit your parking fine challenge online, write to us at:

PO Box 7736
Dorchester
Dorset
DT1 9GN

Once we receive your challenge

We will usually let you know if your challenge has been accepted or rejected within 4 weeks. This can sometimes take longer during busy times so please wait to hear from us.

If you made your challenge online, we will email you with our decision. Make sure you check your junk/spam email folder. If you sent us your challenge by post, we will write to you with our decision.

If your challenge is accepted

If we accept your challenge, your parking fine is written off and there is nothing to pay. You don't need to do anything else.

If your challenge is rejected

If we reject your challenge, you need to pay the parking fine. We may still offer you the 14 day 50% discount starting from when you receive our decision.

You can appeal to the Traffic Penalty Tribunal if you're still not happy. They are the independent adjudicator. You will need the Notice of Rejection (NoR) of Representations letter, which we will send you if we reject your challenge.
